The Mob Museum’s Kefauver Day Gift: Free Entry for All!

In the heart of Downtown Las Vegas is the National Museum of Law Enforcement and Organized Crime, known colloquially as the Mob Museum. This year, the museum is celebrating Kefauver Day, November 15th, with a gift to the public: free or discounted entry for everyone.

Senator Estes Kefauver

Kefauver Day commemorates the anniversary of the Kefauver Hearings, a series of public inquiries led by Senator Estes Kefauver in the early 1950s. These hearings were pivotal in exposing the vast influence of organized crime in America and were instrumental in the development of national law enforcement strategies to combat the mafia. Notably, one of the hearings was held right in the Las Vegas Courthouse, which is now the site of the Mob Museum. This historic connection provides the perfect backdrop for visitors to delve into the complex tapestry of crime, justice, and governance.

Located at 300 E Stewart Ave, the museum invites guests to travel back in time to the era when mobsters walked the streets of Las Vegas. On Kefauver Day, the museum operates with extended hours, from 9 am to 10 pm, giving visitors ample opportunity to explore its comprehensive exhibits. The artifacts, interactive displays, and authentic stories within its walls paint a vivid picture of America’s criminal past and the ongoing battle against lawlessness.

Adding to the day’s allure, The Underground, the museum’s own prohibition-style speakeasy, opens from 11 am to midnight. Patrons can sip on period-correct cocktails while surrounded by the ambiance of a bygone era, further immersing themselves in the historical theme of the day.

Entry on Kefauver Day is free for Nevada residents. Out-of-State visitors get buy-one-get-one entry.

In conjunction with the museum’s celebration, the Mob Walking Tour is offering a special discount. Although not affiliated with the Mob Museum, this 5-star small group tour enhances the experience with expert guides sharing insights into the city’s notorious connection with organized crime figures. The tour, which typically includes museum entry as part of the package, will be deeply discounted to coincide with the free entry on Kefauver Day.

Visitors can look forward to experiencing the real stories and locations that were once the battlegrounds of law enforcement and organized crime syndicates. The Mob Walking Tour promises an enriching supplement to the museum’s offerings, providing context and narrative to the artifacts and exhibits within the museum.

This November 15th, mark your calendar for a step into the intriguing world of the mob and law enforcement history. Whether you’re a history buff, a true crime aficionado, or just looking for a unique way to spend the day, the Mob Museum’s open doors are an invitation to be seized. Don’t miss out on the chance to walk the line between law and order and the organized crime underworld, learning about the city’s vibrant past in the most engaging way possible
